Honey
Can dogs eat honey? Honey is safe for dogs in smaller quantities. It contains natural sugars and small amounts of vitamins and minerals. It contains vitamins A, B complex, C, D, E and K, along with minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and manganese.
Honey is purported to have antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties, reduce inflammation, sooth stomach ulcers and sore throats, and cure seasonal allergies. Other benefits noted:
Alleviating Skin Allergies
Heal Topical Wounds
Soothe Kennel Cough
Aid Digestion and Gastrointestinal Upset
Boost Energy Levels
Improving Mobility
Many of these claims are anecdotal, but because it is safe for dogs, it is no harm for any dog to try.
For any sweet tooth, honey is a great natural treat. However, the sugar content can cause obesity in dogs if it is out of control. Especially if your dog does not get adequate exercise or has a good balanced diet. The sweetness can promote tooth decay, so it is important to brush your dog’s teeth often. Raw honey should not be fed to puppies or dogs with compromised immune systems, as it may contain the presence of botulism spores. Honey should not be given to diabetic or obese dogs.
Dogs that are allergic to bee stings and are hypersensitive may have a similar reaction just by ingesting honey. So do use honey sparingly. Like we do for select Kuro Snacks.
