Staycation with Your Pet Checklist

Planning a staycation with your dog by Kuro Snacks Singapore

Planning a Singapore Staycation with your Dog?

So if you’ve decided to go on a Staycation with your pet at one of the pet-friendly hotels in Singapore, you have to think about what you want to prepare for your pet. Remember to keep them as comfortable as possible. Most of them prefer to have their comforts, habits and schedules. So it’s important to make them feel welcomed and at home while you’re in a different place. We signed up for it, but they didn’t!

Here’s our checklist:

Eating/Meal Time
• Pet Bowl
The first and most important thing is to take care of their meals! Whether you feed your dog kibbles or wet food, make sure they have a place they can get food and water. Your dog bowls are important to ensure they have something to eat from. If your pet isn’t fussy, then bring the spare bowls we know you are hoarding or the portable fold out ones.

• Pet Food*
If you’re feeding your cat/dog kibbles only or have a mix of food, for a couple of days they should be alright just eating their kibbles. But if they are the kind that need to have some or all meals cooked/wet, then you might need to really plan this in advance. There are various types, whether canned, or pouched, or fresh, this might present different challenges. Especially if the hotel you’re staying at doesn’t give you access to a microwave. That’s where the kettle for hot water is going to come in handy. That’s your best bet to cook eggs, reheat food through hot water conduction, or something. But you better get cracking on this. Unfortunately even the best pet-friendly hotels may not be made for pets - and you can tell, simply by asking them if they have a menu for your pets.
*This is the most important thing to deal with!

Kuro Snacks

Whether your pet is good or not, some Kuro Snacks will go a long way to get them to be a good cat or dog. Use it for training, for coercing them or as a reward. It will go a long way to make them comfortable while they are on holiday with you. If your pet has motion-sickness, you might want to give them some of our Kuro Snacks that help them cope with it better. And if you want another staycation in future, be sure to stock up to make it a rewarding experience for them too!

Nap/Sleep Time
• Pet Bed
Some cats/dogs prefer to sleep on their bed. They might feel a little uneasy without their bed. Hopefully your pet is accustomed to a bed that is rather portable! If not, plan ahead and get your pet accustomed to more than their one bed. It would help if there is a blanket or some article that is portable but with their bed, so it’s like telling them “this is where you go night night”.

• Dog Blanket/s, Pillow or Stuffed Toy
There are cats/dogs that may have their favorite blanket or teddy bear that they sleep with. Even if you don’t want to bring your pet’s bed (it may not be very mobile), but you must bring along their favorite blanket! If they don’t have one, see if you can create the habit well before your staycation.

Play Time
• Pet Shoes
If your cat/dog are used to shoes, it’s a great idea to bring them along. Especially if they are going to areas they aren’t fond of, and that can include sandy beaches (we love them, they may not). You’re also in unchartered territories, so you won’t know what lurks amidst the grass. As dog owners, by now you would know that there’s all kinds of trash that may be harmful lurking in the shadows.

• Pet Toys
While a staycation is one for you to enjoy, make it more enjoyable for your pets too. Bring some of their favorite toys, they work to make them comfortable but also get some play time. You’ll be sure the next time you go for a staycation, they’d love to join you too.

• Walking Essentials
Especially for dog owners, don’t forget to bring along your collars, harness and leashes, maybe even bring an extra one, you know, just in case. Particularly, because you never know what would happen, weather-wise or if they get up to mischief in the mud/sand/sea. Don’t forget poo bags and wet wipes! But more importantly, don’t forget your Apple AirTag or pet tracker.

Other things To Consider
If your pet is fond of doing their business outdoors and where you’re staying will have ample ground for them to do so, then no worries! If your pet is used to doing it indoors, don’t forget your litter boxes, pee pads and other toilet accessories, especially in a foreign place, it may be hard for them to go to the toilet like we do! The last thing we would want is unpleasant accidents.

Update: Some hotels, like the one we stayed with, the Amara Sanctuary Resort on Sentosa actually was pretty well prepared for your staycation with your pet. Featuring some sample sized kibbles, food, treats, bed, bowl and more, so do check in with the hotel prior to prepping the exhaustive list of things that we’ve mentioned here.

That said, have an absolute blast at your staycation. We wrote this because it’s very real, we’re pet owners too.
