One would think that dogs should be allowed at all parks, but there are many parks in Singapore where dogs are not allowed. The primary reason behind this is that these act as nature reserves and dogs are not permitted so as to preserve a safe haven for our native biodiversity. Dogs frequently scent mark places they visit thus affecting the movement of native animals and they may also bark at or otherwise harass native animals found within the reserves. Part of the natural habitats have animals that may be of concern, and because we love our dogs, we wouldn’t want chance encounters with them. These include but are not limited to the following and we won’t want to know who will win a territory dispute or what happens in the worst case scenario. Show Consideration for Others
Show care and consideration when using our park facilities. The amenities, such as the open lawns, shelters and passageways, are meant for everyone. Help us keep our park facilities in pristine condition for all to enjoy.
Keep noise levels low. Appreciate the sounds of nature and respect other park goers by keeping noise levels low. Only then can our parks and the peaceful silence of nature be fully enjoyed and appreciated by everyone.
Be a responsible pet owner. In order to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, kindly put your furry friends on leash and muzzle them if necessary. Most importantly, please take ownership and clean up after your pet.
Park where you should. Please follow parking directions, and park your vehicles only at designated lots. Be gracious and leave the accessible lots for those who truly need them.
Do not smoke. Smoking is prohibited at covered spaces, shelters, toilets, playgrounds, fitness corners, carparks, as well as in areas where no-smoking signs have been installed, including the smoke-free parks and Nature Reserves. Let's keep our Nature Reserves, parks and gardens smoke-free for everyone to enjoy. (See NEA’s website for more information).
Help Conserve our Environment
Dispose waste in a proper manner. Keeping our parks clean is everyone’s responsibility. Littering not only spoil the beauty of our parks, they may also harm the animals. Kindly throw your litter at the designated bins located around our parks.
Help reduce waste. Instead of using one brochure each, do consider sharing them when moving about in a group. Afterwards, do return the brochures in a good condition for others to use.
Stay on designated trails. Avoid stepping off track while on our nature trails. By stepping off the trails, you risk disturbing and trampling on our flora and fauna.
Respect our Flora and Fauna
Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photographs. Our parks are shared spaces for all to enjoy. Do not disturb any wildlife. Let our beautiful flora and fauna thrive in their natural habitats.
Maintain a distance away from wildlife. Do resist the temptation to follow or approach any wildlife. Appreciate the wildlife from afar and maintain a safe distance from them. Kindly refrain from feeding them as this can affect their health and alter their natural behaviour. Heed animal advisories.
Respect the eco-system. Please refrain from feeding native or stray animals, or releasing animals into our parks and nature reserves. Doing so may upset our fragile eco-system and cause more harm than good.
Observe the opening and closing times. Our nature reserves and most nature parks (Dairy Farm, Chestnut, Hindhede, Kranji Marshes, Windsor) are closed at night to allow our native fauna, many of which are nocturnal, to feed and breed without being interrupted by human activity. Let's do our part to ensure a conducive environment for endangered native biodiversity.
