Eggs
Eggs are delicious, not just for us but for our dogs (and cats) too. Eggs are high in protein and contain many essential amino acids and fatty acids. They make perfect snack or supplements for dogs. Not only are eggs a healthy and nutritious snack for dogs, they can even help settle upset tummies.
A Complete Food
Eggs are also one of the most complete sources of amino acids, the building blocks of protein. So feeding them to your dog is a great way to boost its protein intake. Aside from protein, eggs also provide many key nutrition components including:
Vitamin A
Riboflavin
Folate
Vitamin B12
Iron
Selenium
Fatty Acids
It is absolutely safe to feed several eggs (up to 3) a week to your dog. You can start by feeding just one egg. If you don’t see evidence of digestive upset, then he should have no trouble with eggs being added as part of the overall diet. To make sure Kuro doesn't have too much, we feed half the egg at each time. Egg is also present in Tsuna by Kuro Snacks and Minto by Kuro Snacks.
Eggshells
Don't forget the eggshell. Include it in your dog's diet as it is a great alternative to bones and provide a calcium and phosphorus boost. They both support healthy teeth and bones and calcium gives a healthy boost to the heart, muscles, and immune system. Phosphorus also helps the body efficiently use fats and carbohydrates and assists in cellular repair. Eggshell calcium is preferred by many pet parents over bone meal because bones can store impurities (and because bone meal is often made from bones that have been used to make gelatin so many nutrients are already missing from the bones). When processing eggshells, it is important to wash them and dry them at a higher temperature (not room temperature) to ensure it is clean and pure, just like we do in Miruku by Kuro Snacks.
Raw
It is not recommended to give dogs raw eggs due to many concerns. Salmonella being one of them. Prolonged feeding of raw egg whites can also lead to a biotin deficiency, they contain an enzyme avidin, which acts as a Biotin inhibitor. Biotin is one of the B vitamins. It’s important for your dog’s cellular growth, fatty acid metabolism, and his healthy skin and coat. Therefore it is recommended that dogs eat them cooked, without unnecessary butter or salt. Egg yolks are very high in biotin, so as long as you feed the entire egg, there are few worries.
Allergies
If your dog is allergic to eggs, please do not feed your dog with them. If your dog shows any symptoms of allergy, stop immediately and consult your veterinarian. The symptoms of an allergy to egg could include:
As with all new food types that you're introducing, you should do it slowly so as to monitor if your dog displays any cause for concern. When in doubt, seek clarity from your veterinarian.
With Tsuna, Minto and Kokonattsu by Kuro Snacks, egg is added for its benefits as well as a binding agent. It is always fully cooked. With Miruku by Kuro Snacks, home-processed eggshells are also added for a calcium & phosphorus boost.
