Motion Sickness in Dogs

Something we don’t think about too often. But just like humans, dogs can get motion sickness too. Motion or car sickness is more apparent in younger dogs. It could be more to do with their balance more than anything else. Some dogs get over it and some don’t. Just like some dogs are a natural when it comes to car rides as we’ve seen in popular movies when they ride out with their tongues out in through the window.

Some dogs also have a lack of conditioning when it comes to being in a vehicle. If your dog is only in a vehicle when it comes time to go to the vet, then your dog would associate the vehicle negatively and can respond with anxiety and stress which can lead to vomiting and diarrhoea. Worse still if your vet is conveniently located within walking distance, which means there is less of a chance your dog is in the car. Frequent travel by car is said to also condition them and allow them to deal with it better. Helping your dog overcome the stress and anxiety of travel will mean that your pet can accompany you more often and will allow you to bond with them much better.

Signs of Motion Sickness in Dogs

  • Diarrhoea

  • Excessive Drooling

  • Lethargy or Inactivity (depression like symptoms)

  • Runny Nose

  • Smacking or Licking Lips

  • Vomiting

  • Whining and Pacing

If you think your dog is going to poo or vomit, stopping the car and let your dog walk a little to temporarily relieve his stress.

Kuro Snacks for Motion Sickness Contains Ginger - The Natural Remedy For Motion Sickness in Dogs

Personally, we don’t like to feed dogs medication unnecessarily. With Buta by Kuro Snacks, one of the core ingredients the pork has been infused with is Ginger. With Miruku by Kuro Snacks, it and contains Ginger as one of the main ingredients as well. With the Salmon series of Kuro Snacks, they too contain Ginger.Ginger is an herb that has been used for centuries to aid in digestion and help prevent nausea and vomiting. It’s safe for dogs and it is believed to help. It certainly did with Kuro. Another option is to feed your dog freshly grated ginger root or ginger root powder also about an hour before travel. And just a little bit will do. It’s the natural car sickness remedies for dogs.

And above all, do all you can to reassure your dogs, praise, talk to them, and pet them when it is safe to do so. But most importantly, keep your eyes on the road and drive safe. For safety belts, car seats and such, click here.
