Whether you call it Wholemeal or Wholewheat Flour, they are are one and the same. White flour which is one of the more common type of flour is highly processed and has no nutritional value. We would avoid it and go for wholemeal flour instead, the better alternative.

Wholemeal flour is a good choice for homemade dog (and cat) food or snacks, and is one of the more popular ones. It also contains a protein called gluten, which some dogs and cats can be allergic to. Do not proceed with wholemeal flour of that's the case.

A few symptoms that point to a dog having a problem with gluten include skin irritation/inflammation/hot spots, recurring ear infections or chronic diarrhea or vomiting.

Wholemeal flour is made by grinding up the whole wheat kernel, this is so that every part of the grain is used and the flour retains its full nutritional value.

Wholemeal flour is a good source of a range of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and plant based nutrients. These include Vitamin B9 (folate), Vitamin E, copper, iron, manganese and selenium, It's also high in fiber and carbohydrates.

Wholemeal flour has a slightly nutty flavor and adds texture, and it also gives your treats a lovely golden brown color.

Bites by Kuro Snacks all use wholemeal flour. If your dog cannot have gluten, it might be better to consider Classic Meats by Kuro Snacks or Bepoke Kuro Snacks instead.
