Dog Lingo

“If you don’t know these terms, you are doing me a concern!”

Popularized by many on the Internet, it seems as long as you are a pawrent (parent to a dog), you have a whole other language. So what is dog language or rather doggo language? It’s a whole different lingo. Let us demystify it for you! This is by no means an exhaustive list of dog language words, but this is what we’ve gathered so far. Dog Lingo

Angery

Another word for Angry.

Awoo

Another word for Howl that mimics the sound you hear when a dog howls.

Blep

The action of a dog's tongue sticking out for no reason, random.

Blop

The action of a dog's tongue sticking out while its mouth was closed, usually accidental.

Bol

Another word for Ball.

Boofer

Another way to describe a very large dog like an Akita Inu, Dobermann or Great Dane.

Boof

Another word for Chow Chow.

Boop

The action of a light tap on the dog's nose.

Bork

Another word for Bark.

Chimken

Another word for Chicken.

Chonky

A word to describe Chubby Dogs.

Concern

Generally, most dogs will give a concerned look, especially when they were given a scare. More used in the phrase "doing me a concern", but can be used loosely when a dog looks concerned about something.

Corgo

Another word for Corgi.

Cronch

Another word for Crunch.

Derp

To describe a dog with a "duh" expression, sometimes with its tongue hanging out. May be associated with confusion or cluelessness.

Doge

Another word for Dog.

Doggo

Another word for Dog.

Foo Foo

To describe a dog that is acting all fancy decked out in designer clothes or with full gear on.

Forgib

Another word for Forgive.

Fren

Another word for Friend.

Fluffeh

Another word for Fluffy.

Floof/Floofer/Fluffer

Describes a very fluffy dog, like a Pomeranian or Samoyed.

Frighten

First started to describe when a dog barks suddenly and gives another dog a scare. More used in the phrase "doing me a frighten", where it suggests someone or another dog gave a dog a scare.

Furkid

Another way to reference a pet cat or dog.

Gib

Another word for Give.

Golden

Another word for Golden Retriever.

Heck/Heckin'

Another way of saying a curse word, without saying a curse word. Example, if a dog has been a good girl, but you want to emphasize that the dog is a very good girl, one might say "that's a hecking good girl!".

Henlo

A dog's way of saying Hello.

Hooman

Another word for Human. Sometimes a dog's parent is referred to as the dog's human but spelt in dog lingo.

Humnger

Another word for Hunger.

Longboi

To describe long-bodied dogs like Dachshunds or Greyhounds.

Mlem

The conscious act of licking their lips.

Monch

Another word for Munch.

Pawrent

A word to describe a parent to a cat or dog, or any other pet really.

Pawsome

Another way of saying very awesome.

Puggo

Another word for Pug.

Puppuccino

Popularized by Starbucks, it is whipped cream in a Starbucks (or any other) expresso cup.

Pupper

Another word for Puppy.

Pupperino

Another word for Puppy.

Ruff

Another word for rough. But also another word to suggest the a dog bark.

Shibe

We had to put this in there, it's another word for Shiba Inu (ode to Kuro).

Smol

Another word for Small.

Snek

Another word for Snack.

Snoot

Another word for Snout. The nose of a dog. Meant for booping.

Sploot

To describe the position of a dog where it is most relaxed, like a split but for the whole body where the bellies are flat and their forelegs are pointing forward whilst the hindlegs are pointing backwards.

Sticc

Another word for Stick.

Thicc

Another word to describe Chubby Dogs.

Tocks

The buttocks of a dog. Used mostly for dogs with cute butts like Corgis.

Toe Beans

To describe the sweet little toes of the dog feet.

Tippy Taps

Used to describe dogs that do a little dance with their feet when they are happy.

Treato

Another word for Treat.

Walkies

Another word for a walk.

Woofer

Another way to describe a very large dog like an Akita Inu, Dobermann or Great Dane.

Yapper

Another way to describe small dogs like a Chihuahua or Pomeranian.

Zoomies

Also known as Frenetic Random Activity Periods (FRAPs), refer to those unmistakable explosions of energy that dogs have on occasion. Usually spinning around or running around in a repeated pattern, like they are absolutely crazy. It also signifies that they are healthy.
